Big cat expedition focuses on travel diaries in search of the BIG CATS!! The itinerary starts with Ol Pejeta Conservancy, renowned for its high concentration of lions, endangered rhinoceros’ species and elephants. Its wildlife density is arguably second only to the renown Maasai Mara. We journey further north to the rugged plains of Samburu National Reserve, celebrated for its unique ‘Special Five’—the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx, Somali Ostrich, and the long-necked Gerenuk. Yet, it is the elusive leopard that we will be seeking here. The safari concludes with four unforgettable nights in the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve, where nature puts on a spectacular show.
Itinerary:-
Day 01: Arrival in Nairobi
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative. If you wish to exchange currency, we recommend doing so at the airport for convenience. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Nairobi where the rest of the day is at leisure to relax after your journey.

Day 02: Nairobi / Ol Pejeta Conservancy
In the morning you gather for a short pre-safari briefing before departing on a 4-hour drive to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Enjoy a game drive enroute to the camp to arrive for check-in and lunch. Proceed for an afternoon game drive from 1500 hrs. Night game drives, bird walks, walking safaris, dog tracking, lion tracking, northern white rhino ae all options available at an extra cost.

Day 03: Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Following breakfast, you visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Information Centre. This Sanctuary was established by the Jane Goodall Foundation as a place where orphaned chimpanzees can be rehabilitated in surrounding that are similar to their natural habitat. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the largest Black Rhino Sanctuary in East Africa. In addition, the Conservancy is home to a few other endangered species including the locally threatened Jackson’s hartebeest and Grevy’s zebra. You will have a day filled with game drives taking you to different corners of the conservancy.

Day 04: Ol Pejeta Conservancy / Samburu National Reserve
Early morning game drive and breakfast. Thereafter depart for Samburu National Reserve which will be about 3 hrs drive which will be your home for the next 3 nights. On arrival, check-in and lunch. Afternoon game drive at your convenience.

Day 05 & 06: Samburu National Reserve
Two (2) full days in Samburu National Reserve with unlimited game drives.
Morning and afternoon game drives take you into the semi-desert thorn bush bordering the Ewaso Ngiro River. One of the reasons for coming to this area is to find and photograph wildlife, which is characteristic of the “Horn of Africa” and not found far south of the semi-arid Samburu region. Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Olive Baboon, Gunther’s Dik-dik and Reticulated Giraffe thrive in this harsh but picturesque landscape. A chance to find the elusive leopard too. Fan-tailed Raven, Black-faced Sandgrouse, Blue-naped Mousebird and Vulture Guinea fowl are just a few of the many unique birds found here. During one of your game drives you have the option ($65.00 per person) of visiting a Samburu village for an introduction to the lives and customs of these nomadic pastoralists.

Day 07: Fly to Maasai Mara National Reserve
Early morning game drive and breakfast. Thereafter, you will be transferred to the airstrip to board your flight to the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve scheduled to depart at 1100 hrs and arriving at 1300 hrs. On arrival, pick up and transfer to your camp for lunch and check-in. This will be followed by an afternoon game drive from 1500 hrs.

Day 08 / 09 & 10: Maasai Mara National Reserve
Three (3) full days in Maasai Mara National Reserve.
This is the northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem virtually throbs with life. “The Mara” savannas are famous for their concentration of grazing and browsing animals and their predators – Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Spotted Hyena.
Morning and afternoon game drives exploring different locations, depending on where your guides feel you have the best chances of seeing exceptional wildlife. They may suggest you rise early and return for a late breakfast, or you may depart with a picnic lunch and spend the day away from camp. The order of your days may vary, but one thing is guaranteed – you will see lots of mammals, birds, and other wildlife.

Day 11: Drive back to Nairobi and outbound departure
Breakfast at your camp and check-out. Begin your drive back to Nairobi with a stopover for lunch at Ubuntu.
Arrive in Nairobi at approx. 1600 hrs. Should there still be time before your flight you might like to do a sightseeing tour of Nairobi or enjoy a meal at any restaurant of your choice. Transfer afterwards for your international flight ending with what we hope was a memorable safari to Kenya.
